100 Huntley Street now scrubbing web pages after host removed, a few other employees appear to be gone

The removal of hosts at 100 Huntley Street (Ron and Reynold Mainse) Axcess Funds and Gordon Driver, and what is going on at Crossroads Christian Communications would not be known if it were not for alert and caring readers and Axcess Fund/Automation  scammed investors courageously speaking up.

BDBO isn’t going to be 100 Huntley/Crossroads Communications news all the time.:^)
This story has been front and centre here for a couple of reasons. 100 Huntley is not answering questions and there are a couple of groups that are well served to have a summary of what is going on;  Gordon Driver/Axcess investors and Crossroad Christian Communication viewers. People have been hurt and they deserve information.

Again, a request and shout out to readers.
If any of you are members of Crossroads and have received information because of your membership about personnel changes, finances, the alleged Driver/Axcess ponzi scheme etc from Crossroads Christian Communication. please feel free to get in touch and pass along what Crossroads management is saying to financial contributors. Your safety privacy will be honoured.

There are several 100 Huntley posts available at BDBO; easy for none-blog readers to find because they’ve been categorized. You’ll find them on the sidebar when you access as Huntley post.
A couple deal with the removal of David Mainse sons from the show, most deal with Gordon Driver, the US civil court filings, legal documentation and what this all means to investors etc.

A US economics professor has pitched in to help BDBO readers understand the procedural and financial complexities with the regulatory boards and in the US case and how investors are affected.
I owe BDBO readers a debt of thanks for the tips and information they’ve been so willing to pass on to help others.

100 Huntley Street has not responded to any questions I’ve asked.
I believe in the KISS rule,  I asked for the board statement on the removal of Ron and Reynold Mainse. I got no response but found the video where Jim Cantelon made the announcement May 5th and transcribed what he said in a prior blog post.

I believe the board statement went up in text at Crossroads Thursday. Here is the official text:

Corporate News
Some Changes at Crossroads
We want to inform you that Ron and Reynold Mainse will not be appearing on any Crossroads programming or otherwise represent Crossroads while they focus their energies on certain matters in their personal lives. They have stepped down from their duties until such time as the Board of Directors has a complete understanding of all of the issues related to a financial investment matter that they were involved in outside of their ministry at Crossroads.

Jim Cantelon, David Mainse, Moira Brown, and other wonderful guest hosts will continue to offer interesting and exciting interviews and stories on 100 Huntley Street from across Canada and around the world.

Two other employees have been scrubbed from the Crossroads site. Again I’ve written to ask.
In an Ontario Exchange and Security Commission order centred around Gordon Driver/Axcess a David Rutledge was named.

I asked readers and those who were scammed if this is the David Rutledge they would have known as involved with Driver/Axcess. I asked 100 Huntley if David Rutledge is the Mainse cousin and if he was the one named in the OESC order. 100 Huntley did not respond so I took a screen shot. It wasn’t necessary because this is in Google cache:

100 Huntley Street, a ministry of Crossroads Christian Communications Inc., was launched in 1977 by Crossroads’ founder David Mainse. In its 32 year history, “Huntley Street”, one of Canada’s longest running live, daily television programs, has faithfully presented the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, along with countless, inspiring individual stories of faith, to a growing national audience.

Today Crossroads stands apart as the largest and most prolific media communications ministry in the country. Crossroads’ Board of Directors, its Executive leadership, and its unparalleled team of dedicated people, are ever more committed to excellence in and through its programming, its global missions programs and its children’s camping ministries.

We are grateful to God for the thousands of partners who continue to financially and prayerfully support the work of Crossroads and we thank you for your kind consideration of these comments.

The video of Jim Cantelon reading the statement appears to have been removed. I’ve written 100 Huntley to ask if it is still available.(Update 16/06/09: The video can be found here June 4th, 2009)

Two other employees have been scrubbed from the Crossroads site that I’m aware of. Again, Crossroads has been  asked.
In an Ontario Exchange and Security Commission order centred around Gordon Driver/Axcess Funds, I’ve hammered at the fact a David Rutledge was named. Crossroads did not respond to my question about Mr. Rutledge so I’ve asked again.

I asked readers and those who were scammed if this is the David Rutledge they would have known as involved with Driver/Axcess. I asked 100 Huntley if David Rutledge is the Mainse cousin and if he was the one named in the OESC order. Since 100 Huntley did not respond, I took a screen shot. It wasn’t necessary because this is in Google cache:

This is what is now up at Crossroad Christian Communications when you look for David Rutledge.

There has been another disappearance of a TV host and Crossroads manager. Norm McLaren  MacLaren was VP of Ministry Relations and a fixture on 100 Huntley Street; after a segment the show would cut to him, he’d comment and pray. Viewers have told me he disappeared off the show about the same time Ron and Reynold Mainse did and he has been taken out of the 100 Huntley opener. Here is the Google cache of his bio as Crossroads VP of Ministries.

This is what is online now:

I’ve written Mr. McLaren MacLaren to ask if he is still with Crossroads. I’ve asked if  he has retired, resigned or removed himself because of the issues going on.

Both Mr. Rutledge and Mr. McLaren  MacLaren deserve the opportunity to clarify their disappearance from the Crossroads websites. The Mainse brothers, while removed from all responsibilities for the reasons stated in the board statement, are still featured on the Crossroads website but out of the TV show opener.

I’m bumping up a comment from one of the administrators of The Miracle Channel Review.  The site has respectfully and professionally pointed out for several about what has gone on with The Miracle Channel  and has filed appropriate complaints with the CRTC as needed.  They have treated viewers who have been harmed with great care.  If you read comments under 100 Huntley posts here at BDBO you’ll see information that hasn’t made it into posts here.  If you want information I suggest keeping an eye on the site, the administrators have contacts I don’t.

Hey Bene, first off, I’d like to say good job on the postings! Now to contribute my 2 cents worth…

As you’re aware, we receive a number of complaints from individuals who have been abused or victimized by ministers or ministries and we keep these on file for reference or in some instances to create public awareness or hold the ministries directly accountable. Regarding your comment of, “If people were chosen for positions by what they or others around them could financially contribute, that doesn’t bode well for any conclusions people may be inclined to jump to now.”, I have some background information on file from a reliable source concerning CTS and how persons were chosen for positions of management and/or directorship. Sadly, your comment bears more reality than most want to know. Within our information, it is well substantiated that individuals were chosen for leadership positions based either on their contributions or their blood/familial relations.

The Mainse story doesn’t surprise us. It is all too common amongst those in ministry, enticed or driven by greed and prosperity, are never realized until it’s too late. I’ve found you can scream “Fire” as loud and often as possible but until someone gets burnt, nobody believes you and even then, they always seem to feel it’s a surface wound that will heal over time or something a simple bandage will cover up.

On another note, I have contacted some of our media connections and am in hopes that there might be some public awareness created here. We hold a great interest in this at our site as 100 Huntley is aired on The Miracle Channel and they just recently received a license to broadcast in Edmonton and Calgary, a decision which was significantly influenced by our intervention against The Miracle Channel.

Keep up the good work.

(As mentioned in a previous post CTS or CITS is not a charity, it is the business spin off of Crossroads Christian Communications).  I was unaware 100 Huntley Street has been broadcasting on The Miracle Channel.

Affinity scams are common in evangelical circles partly because trust is so easily given. I linked up to a good article on religious affinity fraud in a prior 100 Huntley post.

Here is a Miracle Channel Review 2007 comment on 100 Huntley left by a former employee.
Miracle Channel post June 12, 2009 Marina: The Love of Money seems to be the Mainse problem.
As with the few posts which have appeared online regarding Driver/Axcess and Ron and Reynold Mainse, there are questions, but the sons are being given the benefit of the doubt as the US proceedings and subsequent public information will take time.

Again thank you to  diligent readers and Axcess investors who are filling in gaps and asking questions.
You’ve done the heavy lifting.
Public ministries which are tax exempt and accept donations need to stay in the light.
And kudos to bloggers who are starting to post  about the issues for their care of facts, so far the few bloggers who have posted have not gotten exercise jumping to conclusions. Once again blogs are ahead of the curve,  The Hamilton Spectator had an article up on Driver May 21st, no other media outlets or religious publications have written about the alleged ponzi scheme and what is occurring at Crossroads Christian Communications. Blog on!
Update:  I received a response to my question about Norm McLaren MacLaren disappearing from 100 Huntley and his web pages gone.
“Norm MacLaren has re-Tired from Crossroads 100Huntley St.”
That’s it. It’s safe to assume it was a staff member who responded, Norm’s name is spelled wrong  (correctly) and re-Tired is another unfortunate typo. No signature of the staff member either.

The strikeouts on Norm MacLarens name are because it is my spelling error, it is rude to misspell someone’s name, and I apologize to Mr. MacLaren. I went back and looked at the email I received from 100 Huntley Street regarding Mr. MacLaren not being on the show. The employee spelled MacLaren correctly, I was wrong,  and repeated my original error in this post.

Another update: The Drew Marshall Show is talking about the Driver/ponzi scheme. Marshall says he was approached by a friend last year to get into this scheme, who told him he could get a 20 percent return. He declined. The radio discussion is very basic, about the fear in donor based boards and whatever whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty. The Drew Marshall Show repeat will be online if you want to have a listen – it is in the 2nd hour of the show.

Update: Elle Pyke followed Norm MacLaren’s trail. He talked about retirement plans in March and being on the show from time to time.  Elle put up that information and asked reasonable questions.  As to the Norm MacLaren retirement information…read the post. Click the links Elle Pyke provides.

Update:  I received a response from Norm MacLaren June 26/09.  “I  retired  from  Crossroads  the  end  of  March  but  I’m  still  involved  in  full  time  ministry. I  may  be  on  air  from  time  to  time , but  at  present  I  have  been  focusing  on  local  Church  ministry.”

Odd that event the official statement is now gone from the Crossroads site http://crossroadstv.ca/about/who-we-are/important-announcement

They are handling this very badly, to my thinking.

  3. Julian Mysko says:

I am a former employee of Crossroads of which I worked in their commercial television divsion called CTS. The recent publicity of this ministry organization does not surprise me. The knowledge I have of this organization during my years of service at Crossroads is of different nature of this previous news however after finding out of the modus operandi and what I experienced at the Crossroads organization I would never financially support this organization. To put it in a terse way I must say there was and probably still is mistreatment of employees and corruption at several levels at the Crossroads organization. I could elaborate extensively but there is too much volume content to convey to bring about in this short forum format.

    Julian:

Thank you. You are welcome to email me and share what you can.

In the next couple of days major media will carrying this story.

In the meantime blogs have an important role.
Investors, employees and viewers deserve to be listened to.

Trust will not be compromised here at BDBO. I have information posted because people found the courage to share what they know. Their safety not be compromised and they will not be verbally abused or demeaned.

Information is power. So many people have been hurt. Investors need to know what they can do. Viewers and donors need to know how to complain and who to complain to.

Crossroads is a tax exempt charity with a public face and a private face. Whatever nostalgia people have for it’s beginning needs to be put away.
Bungling communications, scrambling to protect dynastic families in their religious group, scrambling to protect money pipelines is no longer acceptable in a time of mass and instant communication.

  5. Bene D says:

    Thanks Glen, I agree.
    Nice catch.
Why is key information removed from the front page?

As webpages get scrubbed, the site suddenly updated or whatever, the video of Jim Cantelon (head of the US arm of Crossroads) was removed, and the original board statement is put under a new statement on the corporate site.

Why are viewers be asked to find the corporate page to read what should be open and direct public communication?

Thanks Howard, the Wayback Machine comes in handy isn’t it?

As mentioned in a previous thread, David Rutledge has not been an employee of 100 Huntley for over a year. He is a Mainse cousin, son of disgraced pentecostal minister Ralph Rutledge.

After leaving 100 Huntley David Rutledge went to work for Axcess Funds/Automation and Gordon Driver.

  8. As you know from what I’ve written previously on this, I’ve been guilty of being a little too lenient and trying to believe the best (or wanting to stay in denial as to the reality) about what has taken place; however when it comes to Mr. MacLaren, my sense of the timeframe is that his departure preceded the current revelations.

However, his could have simply been an earlier parting that was related to, in reaction to, or triggered by the events we’re now discussing. He could have simply been the leading edge of the various corporate responses to this by Crossroads.

Because of his high on-air profile, and what has happened since, this is something else they will have to eventually clarify, even if his story has nothing to do with the one more front and center.

  9. Bene D says:

I’d like the opportunity to ask Gord MacLaren myself Paul.

This blogger has the information on Norm MacLaren’s retirement.

Did anyone on air say good bye? Nice working with you, good job, thank you Gord?
That was a great retirement party?

When an on air personality disappears people wonder and assume the worst.

As for webpages, it may be also about overworked web people updating the site and servers.
However, why can’t they just say so?

100 Huntley Street rents studio time from CTS. I don’t know who did the CTS website, someone has been busy updating Crossroads/100 Huntley which is ‘powered by Donor.com’ out of Delaware.

Both sites are registered to Crossroads Christian Communications Inc. Maybe there was so much clutter to transfer, techs are way behind the curve and older webpages can’t transfer over.

  10. Brenda Cormier says:

Wow…I pray for all the things going on at Huntley Street. I just realized that all those people are gone. I did not hear the announcement by Jim Cantelon (sp).

I have always wondered about some things of the ministry. Do the name it claim it teachings or greed have had something to do with the possible outcome that is lurking around the corner. I hope not!

The sad situation is that Christianity…Televangelist reputaions may be hitting 100 Hundred Huntley St. and Christian reputation and trust.

I will keep praying and keeping an eye out for the future news about the Ministry.

  12. M Robinson says:

Yet another person that persists in slandering Crossroads Christian Communications with one shred of evidence.

First, let’s clear up another misconception. This must be done because the author of this blog cannot be bothered to do his homework.

100 Huntley Street and Crossroads Christian Communications are not the same thing. Crossroads is the corporate parent company of a number of entities. One of those entities is a national daily television broadcast called 100 Huntley Street. Another entity is CTS-TV.

Next, CCC has no involvement with this scheme. This was a business venture that Ron and Reynold became involved in on their own. CCC did the right thing by suspending Ron and Reynold until the authorities have completed their investigations. Why? The Bible talks about staying away from not just evil but the “appearance” of evil. The suspensions do not mean that Ron and Reynold have been judged as guilty of what many, including this blog author, say is being organizers of the ponzi scheme. In fact, Ron and Reynold were “sucked in” by someone that befriended and then used them for their own purposes. IF you don’t believe this, then you must have a good answer to this question: Why did the CEO of the fake investment company, the person that befriended Ron and Reynold, leave Canada to live in the U.S. and not return, AND, why has Ron and Reynold stayed where they are? Go ahead, make my day and give me a GOOD explanation for that.

Bottom line, Ron and Reynold are not running away from this. They admit that they are guilty of naivity and not conducting proper due diligence in the “investment opportunity” that was presented to them. They themselves were investors and were also taken to the cleaners by the ponzi. And, Ron and Reynold have done something else that the did not NEED to do, something that the fraudster should do – repay other investors their losses.

One final question for the blog author – why don’t you use the name of the person that was behind this ponzi – the real fraudster. Let me guess – because his name is not well known but the name, “Mainse” is? In other words, this is all the proof I need that your “AGENDA” in writing these articles is to slam Crossroads, the Mainse family and Christians in general. No more, no less.

  13. Bene D says:

    Hi M:

Crossroads Christian Communications Inc owns 100 Huntley.
They own all the shows they produce.

Can you show me where Crossroads Television station is owned by the charity? Why are people saying they are shareholders?

There is news out today about the new CEO and amagamated board.

Next, CCC has no involvement with the ponzi scheme.
The organization is not involved, individuals with the organization are involved.

Why do you think authorities are finished with their investigations?
Regulatory groups tasked to look at Crossroads finances are finished. A forensic audit. the Canadian Council of Christian Charities.
If Revenue Canada wants to investigate they will.

Why can’t you say Gordon Driver’s name?
Why can’t you say David Rutledge?

Click the word blog on the header – the banner at the top of the blog.
Why? Gordon was facing a civil suit brought by two agencies, ordered by the OSC to desist.
He made a deal with the SEC last week and will face criminal charges if he doesn’t comply. He knew the scheme was collapsing, he was under investigation and and he took off.

Where are Ron and Reynold going to go? They were victims and finders. It’s classic in a ponzi scheme. Use the search on the right hand side and read up on ponzi schemes from the AARP, the BC Securities God Fraud Squad and Innocent greed from the economics professor.

Why do you think Reynold is paying people back?

It was announced he hasn’t worked for 100 Huntley and Crossroads for about a year and a half when Ron said he was setting up a resitution fund.

Do you know how these funds are going to work?

They were victims and finders – minimum 60 people, max 75 by their own words.
Finders. People get charged for that behavior.

M, take time to use the search, Gordon Driver has been mentioned since April. As has David Rutledge. Steven Taylor since October 6th the day he was named by the OSC.
Gordon Driver hs commented here at BDBO.

Read the posts, read the comments and hopefully you find answers to your last question.

If you don’t, feel free to speak up.

  14. xcell says:

M = what do you mean, “And, Ron and Reynold have done something else that the did not NEED to do, something that the fraudster should do – repay other investors their losses.”

Did this happen? I have a friend was an investor he knows nothing of repayment? Curious?

  15. Bene Diction says:

I’m hoping M will come back and elaborate.
Reynold didn’t say anything about paying back the investors he brought in,
all Ron said he was setting up restitution and that was it.

It’s my understanding investors are completely in the dark. They haven’t heard from the OSC, SEC or a Mainse restitution fund.
If my information is wrong I’d really like to know, hopefully M can provide some answers.
