Garnet:

"perhaps you will have a bit of empathy for the leadership at Crossroads and other investors that are involved. "

Interesting how people tend to want to tell me what I feel.

Questioning is very threatening to some people and some organizations during a crisis. Questioning does not mean everyone asking necessarily lack empathy. Having given and received, I get that.

"In the same way that you regret having exposed your readers to potential legal action, I am sure Crossroads would be even more concerned about exposing employees to the same."

Patience has been suggested by a wise reader.
Maybe. We'll see.

"p.s. I hope nothing comes of the legal action you described. It sounds like you complied immediately so I trust this will just go away."

Thanks.

Malcolm,

Your posting is exactly the type of irresponsible blogging that gives blogging a bad name.

I took just a few quotes from your posting:

"They should resign and get out of the ministry for being lovers of money more than lovers of God or people!"

"Bene - Do we give the Mainse Brothers and their wives the benefit of the doubt that they are innocent when the facts speak otherwise?"

"No! They are hypocrites who have not and do not live up to what they have preached to others! And we have enough hypocrites in the church of God!"

Honestly it is not responsible to make statements like this before the facts are known. You think you know the facts because you have read a few things on the Internet but the real truth, as is always the case, will yet be told.

You should try patience and wait until the real truth is known before making such inflamatory statements.

p.s. I am thankful you were not resonsible for framing the Canadian legal system. Perhaps you would find Saudi more suitable to the way you feel the justice system should work.

Hi Ben,

I just now saw your posting about removing the article regarding the interview with Gordon Driver.

Now that you understand that there is legal action surrounding this entire subject, perhaps you will have a bit of empathy for the leadership at Crossroads and other investors that are involved. I am sure they received legal councel BEFORE making any postings and therefore avoided having to do what you did which was remove what you had already posted.

In the same way that you regret having exposed your readers to potential legal action, I am sure Crossroads would be even more concerned about exposing employees to the same.

Maybe this will give you a little more patience when expressing your need to know now.

p.s. I hope nothing comes of the legal action you described. It sounds like you complied immediately so I trust this will just go away.

Very good word.
I liked Douglas Koops careful use of mysterious mercy.

Christian Week will be media of record on Crossroads I think.

Having said that, while ignorance of the law is not a defense, intent factors in.

I don't know how to deal with a cheerful ignorance I'm seeing.
I honestly don't.

As for media, this isn't the only big Canadian religious story media hasn't picked up, it'll be awhile.

Walter does make his point however I do feel we need to hold steady as Mark Peterson from the Bridgeway Foundation states "I want to hear the full story, the humbling story — not one coated with religious mumbo-jumbo where image is more valued than substance. That’s where this story began; it doesn’t need to end there."

Good word, that.

Doubtless the due process of law will grind on throughout which the particular members of the Mainse and Rutledge clans are as entitled to the presumption of innocence no more, no less than anyone else. Indeed there may not in the final analysis be found grounds for civil or other action against any of them. We don't know.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse and that may be cold comfort to those under investigation. Thus far the apparent reluctance of the media to pick up the threads of the Hamilton Spectator story is befuddling but there again there is a lot at stake here.

This whole thing will take time to unravel. Meantime we should be wary of a pick'n'mix approach to Scripture. Walter does make his point however I

MT 5:27 "You have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not commit adultery.' 5:28 "But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

MT 7:24 "Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 7:25 "and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. 7:26 "But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 7:27 "and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall."

1COR 2:15 But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one.

2 Thessalonians :4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.

1TM 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

A person is presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law?

Bene - Do we give the Mainse Brothers and their wives the benefit of the doubt that they are innocent when the facts speak otherwise?

What facts?

Well how did the Mainse acquire their wealth when they didn't work every in the private sector but in a nonprofit religious corporation?

Why were they chasing after the mighty dollar when they have preached to others - MT 6:33 "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
LK 6:38 "Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you."

And no doubt during their TV Telethon to raise money they told the public about the hundred fold return like most crooked TV evangelist do and pastors do? i.e Matthew 13:8

So it's obvious to me that they are guilty of being hypocrites, not practicing what they preach and not putting Jesus first in all things!

Now tell me the truth if they put Jesus first and asked Him for wisdom in all things would He have led them into involvement with a con artist? Of course not!

So what should they do now that they foolishly built their house on the sand instead of the rock Jesus and it fell down?

They should resign and get out of the ministry for being lovers of money more than lovers of God or people!

Am I being hard on them?

No! They are hypocrites who have not and do not live up to what they have preached to others! And we have enough hypocrites in the church of God!
