“I got a cultural education in how important Tim Hortons is to Canada,” says Plante. “I don’t think it would have been such a big deal if Tim Hortons wasn’t such an iconic company.”
As a result of the decision, Plante says coffee will no longer be served at this weekend’s event. “Time is of the essence,” he says. “Finding another sponsoring vendor is out of the question.”
The gay marriage opponent doesn’t hold a grudge against Tims, though. “We respect their decision and wish them the best. We have no plans for a retaliatory boycott.”
Instead, he blames gay marriage advocates. “This is not about Tim Hortons,” says Plante. “This is about the organized approach to squash all private and public comments on marriage.”
Plante insists that his event will be non-religious and non-political. The invitation, however, says “the Marriage Day celebration will include live worship.” It also says, “This is a great opportunity to take a stand for marriage as it was created: between a man and a woman … and make a statement that Rhode Islanders believe strongly in this cherished institution.”
NOMÂ can’t find another coffee supplier.
US companies don’t want to sponsor this group either.
NOM can ‘blame’ who ever they want.Â
NOMÂ is not an apolitical, areligious group, dispite innocous advertising of their Rhode Island day.
It’s a none religious event and they are having a worship service.Â
Oh.
NOM is not planning a retaliatory boycott against Tim Hortons?
Oh.
Tim Hortons corporate decision is not a boycott.
Oakville stated it’s policy when news the company was involved with a NOM event went viral.
The Canadian office has said what it is going to say, apparently it was the district office in Delaware who made the decision to give the religious right political group Rhode Island event free coffee.
NOM won’t hold a grudge. Oh whew.
A US company, Blount Fine Foods pulled out of the NOM event also.
Remains to be seen if NOM will boycott this company.
Mike Airhart:
According to his LinkedIn profile, Blount president and co-owner Todd Blount is active in several Christian associations: the Barrington Christian Academy, Barrington Baptist Church, Park Street Church, and LinkedIn’s Christian Business Leaders Network.
…I hope that Mr. Blount and his company understand that people of faith can conscientiously disagree about sexuality and marriage. I hope that the company comes to realize that sponsorships which pit some customers against others — and which advance one religious doctrine by making other religious and civil doctrines illegal — are counterproductive.
No free soup and coffee to resell to attendees. (I’ll refrain from any Steinfeld references)

Rhode Island National Organization for Marriage – Marriage Day
Update:
The following should be attributed to Blount Fine Foods of Fall River, Massachusetts.
“Corporate philanthropy and good citizenship has been part of Blount’s mission since inception. In keeping with that, we have a long track record of donating Blount-brand chowder and other products to all non-profits in our home area that request it for events. These donations of soup are just simple gestures of goodwill and were certainly not intended to be interpreted otherwise. It’s very concerning to us that anyone would think otherwise and as a result, we will review our policy going forward.â€

Starbucks is from the Pacific North-West and so represents a
liberal and progressive part of America. That’s probably why
it didn’t sponsor (or probably wasn’t even offered).
This Rhode Island venture is apparently finished before it
started. Smarter heads prevail, at last.
Now all America needs is calmer heads at these town hall
meetings that are being hijacked by the right.
ive never seen a tim hortons, but i would patronize them for their stance..
