  1. Torontonian says:

The man is to be pitied.

    Others wish to revile him.

His end will come soon because of his age.

His health is not doing too well and it takes
quite a bit of makeup for him to be
    presentable for the cameras.

He’s yesterday’s man in an empty suit.
His followers are aging and dying off and
his days are numbered both on TV and
    on this planet.

How many will remember him after he’s gone?

How many will remember 10 years after
    he’s gone?

His empire is estimated to be worth 300 million to a billion, and I agree somewhat, he isn’t worth outrage or defense.

I think a lot of people will remember, it’ll take a generation.

He is not a Rev. (he gave up that licence to run for President) and last election one candidate sought his blessing. He is shrewd, controlling, divisive and there is something very wrong with someone who so wired to build an empire he consistently can’t connect with suffering.

I don’t see him as the crazy uncle at the dinner party at all, so I have little room for pity.

Donald Miller made a compassionate case for not buying into Robertson’s theatrics, giving him humanity he chose not to give Haitians.
Religious Dispatches also has some excellent articles.

  3. Howie51 says:

Pat Robertson represents a single large nail in the lid of my personal religious coffin. No one discounts some very sincere leaders in organized religion today, and the fine services and mercy they provide the world – but even these seem to be in short supply. As Dan Barker pointed out, I did not lose my faith, I willingly gave it up. I have no interest in being an associate of a cult that breeds the likes of this divisive, pitiful excuse for a “leader”.

At best I will remember Robertson as a pathetic old schoolmaster desperately trying to gain back control of his class. May his millions go to the Red Cross following his passing. (Dream on)

Pat Robertsons lack of discretion, dignity, honour, and respect seems to have surfaced from beneath his usually very nice demeanour. I shudder to think what else lies just below the surface.

    Time to retire I thnk.

  5. Tim G says:

    A wolf in sheeps clothing.
