Finishing the race – IMonk

At the encouragement of our oncologist, we have opted to discontinue treatment. He said the chemotherapy was not working, and it would actually be doing a disservice to Michael to continue. We are now receiving help from our local hospice. We know we are in good hands with them, and we are at peace that we have made the best decision under the circumstances.
Several people have already suggested various alternative treatments. While we appreciate their concern and helpfulness, we have discussed this possibility and Michael does not want to try anything else. Please pray for strength and acceptance, for trust in God, for minimal pain and for a peaceful passing. Denise Spencer

Michael, the IMonk has been a big online presence in faith blogs for several years now. He has been a teacher at a Southern Baptist school in Kentucky, and he poured out his faith, his challenges and questions, his ups and downs, his embracing of ambiguity and his love of Christ.

Over the US Thanksgiving Michael disappeared off his very busy blog and a fellow named Chaplain Mike filled in. Michael was diagnosed with cancer and his busy voice became quiet. Readers gave generously when the health insurance ran out.
Chaplain Mike began preparing Michael’s readers for the last journey, the last post, the good-bye.
Micheal always wanted to write a book, and this September it is being published.
The IMonk has had a big presence in the lives of bloggers around the world and he is missed.
May God have mercy and be present with Michael, his family friends and care givers as the IMonk rounds the corner toward home.
