Lin Yu-Chun

Lin Yu-Chan is a 24 year Taiwanese man who works part time in a music store and makes about $470/US a month.

Until this week.

He loves to sing, so much that his family threatened to kick him out if he didn’t stop.
He grew up overweight in an image conscious culture, he looks androgynous.
Not traits that are a plus when trying to break into the music business.
He spent hours listening to Celine Dion, Whitney Houtson, Mariah Carey, Ella Fitzgerald and other overseas female singers.

I think he has the level of talent of vocal impersonator Jane Horrocks.

He’s been trying to break into the music business for the last four years and after college, he signed up with a new agency.

He has won a few and lost his share of local talent shows, his life changed this week when someone put his latest talent show attempt online.

He is a YouTube sensation, garnering nearly 4 million hits so far for his pitch perfect imitation of Whitney Houston on a Taiwanese show called “Super Star Avenue.”  The prize for the winner is 1 million dollars.

Lu-Chan didn’t win and he’s fine with that. He is now in demand around the world, and he landed in the US this week to appear on The George Lopez show.

Here he is channelling Whitney Houston on the April 2nd show.

There is a video of him singing Amazing Grace March 26th on the show, which gets more viewers than American Idol. He gets the words mixed up, but there is nothing wrong with his delivery, timre or pitch – he moved on to the next round, his Whitney Houston song and as they say, the rest is history.

About Bene Diction

Have courage for the great sorrows, And patience for the small ones. And when you have laboriously accomplished your tasks, go to sleep in peace. God is awake.

I think John Newton would be very honored, that this young man sang his song. Even though the words are mix up a bit, the beauty of the music and the words are still not misunderstood. There truly is an Amazing Grace. Oh, how sweet the sound!

I don’t really like his voice…I’m sorry…The first time that I watched about him was on TMZ… wherein the paparazzi are making fun of him… well they do make fun of all of the celebrities… Well, he should just continue to work on his English speaking skills for him to sing English songs very well.

  4. Susan says:

It’s wonderful to see other culture’s appreciate something about America. Who cares what the paparazzi has to say? Whoever gets english right all the time? What’s wrong when we hear an accent in a song from another culture?

The gift of music is just that, a gift. The art of giving joy to someone in music. I see he has passion. It’s not the stage or light’s that drive the passion. It’s more about the love you give and get back. The rest is just show.
