I went by a newsstand during my lunch today and picked up the National Enquirer, with their two page story which alleges “TV EVANGELIST BENNY HINN CAUGHT IN TORRID AFFAIR” with fellow TV evangelist Paula White. You’ll remember that Bene D first mentioned the rumour story in his post yesterday.
Like Bene, I am not a habitual reader of tabloids due to the nature of their reporting. But even a stopped clock can be right twice a day, and I think that a little analysis of the story can be helpful in deciding whether there is something valid happening, or whether things are being blown out of proportion. In a week where a media frenzy needed to be undone, we need to be cautious while we have our eyes open.
As Aimee Semple McPherson and Kenneth Ormiston could have told you, the media has a long history of trying to cite sexual misconduct by ministers.
I am thinking that the Enquirer may have learned of this late in their production cucle, as the story is only promoted in a small box at the bottom of the front page, with a photo of “Benny Hinn”: “TV PREACHER CAUGHT WITH MISTRESS–she’s an evangelist too!”
If we turn to the actual story–”TV EVANGELIST BENNY HINN CAUGHT IN TORRID AFFAIR!”–near the middle of the tabloid, we see two photos of Hinn and White, where they are holding hands. One shows them from the back and the other from the front. The photo is captioned: “Rome Italy July 13, 2010 Benny Hinn and Paula Hinn hold hands as they leave Rome’s Hotel Hassler during their romantic getaway.”
Something that is odd about the photos as they were printed in my copy. The photo showing a front view of the pair has the lady with blonde hair. However, in the rear view of the pair, the lady seems to have white hair. Is that due to the shadows in the second, from the rear shot? Perhaps a photography expert can help…
What struck me about the story is how much it resembles, in some ways, the Toronto Star story, reporting on background such as details of Hinn and White’s ministries, the Grassley probe, and how Hinn is getting a divorce from his wife, which is not final yet.
All the Enquirer sources are anonymous, which is never a good sign.
One tabloid trick that the Enquirer uses are quoting “insiders” who do a colour commentary on what is going on. This could easily be the Enquirer editors themselves.
The “insider”, by the way, says that Hinn has been a “mentor and father figure” to White. I’ll return to this later.
Given the splash and emphasis the National Enquirer is giving to the story, the details of the “juicy parts” are thin.
Here they are, from the story:
“….We caught the couple walking hand-in hand out of the Hotel Hassler, where Pastor Hinn was booked into the preidential suite under a false name, on July 13….
….
….Hinn and White spent three nights at the ritzy Rome hotel, where Hinn chceked in as David Salomon.
….
(and in the next to last paragraph)
….While in Rome recently, Hinn was not wearing his wedding ring. One observer said he “acted affectionately” toward White, taking her hand as they strolled through thye streets. Hinn “seemed very happy, at one point wearing a big grin as he left the hotel” where he and White were staying, the eyewitness added….
Question: I know that every time I have stayed in a hotel, especially post 9-11, I have had to provide photo ID such as a passport. Isn’t it now impossible to follow the lead of old black-and-white gangster movies and sign in under a fake name?
And does the Enquirer know that Hinn usually wore a wedding ring?
You could look at this story two ways.
We know about Hinn’s long history of bad theology, abberant stewardship of finances and such. We could guess that he has the sort of character that could lead to an extramarital affair.
It certainly does look suspicious to stay with another woman in your hotel when you are still married, and walk around holding hands with her.
But let’s look at the other point of view. As Hinn is a “mentor” of White’s, as the Enquirer admits, it would certainly be the case that Hinn and White are friends.
Hinn is now 57, and comes from a middle eastern heritage. It would perhaps be natural for him, as a somewhat old fashioned person, to hold hands with close female friends and to smilingly enjoy their company. Although Billy Graham reportedly has a rule that he is never alone with a female that isn’t his wife, is it fair to assume that if Hinn doesn’t observe the rule that something is amiss?
From what I understand, from various documetaries, Hinn usually travels with an affair-complicating entourage. The Enquirer doesn’t know this, or won’t report it.
I’m also wondering about the “eyewitness” cited late in the story. I am thinking that he is the paparazzi who took the two “smoking gun” photos. Surely a major potential terrorist target such as Rome wouldn’t have hotels that allow people to sign in as “Mr. Fake Name.” My guess is that Mr. Photographer might recognize Hinn, observed what happened in public areas on the hotel, took a couple pictures and sent them to the National Enquirer, whose editors then figured out that the mystery lady was Paula White.
Am I taking Hinn’s side? No, and I would say that given Hinn’s past, you could very well reasonably assume that something fishy is going on between the pair. He ceratinly has a backstory. But, the Biblical advice to “Test all things. Hold on to what is good” should apply to the National Enquirer if it applies to any paper, right?
Let’s see what regular papers do, and how the story plays out.
Whatever happens, though, appearances can take a toll on a person’s reputation, which reminds me of the last time that I know that I bought the National Enquirer.
Back in 1987, U.S. Senator Gary Hart was the frontrunner to be the next Democratic nominee for president. That year, the National Enquirer ran a story quoting Rice as saying “Gary Hart Asked Me to Marry Him” with a picture of Rice cuddling with Hart on the cover. The resulting scandal torpedoed his efforts to become president.
Will the photos of Hinn holding hands with White–assuming no photoshopping and correct identification–topple Hinn? Will the National Enquirer topple Hinn? Who knows…

Benny Hinn Ministry statement on National Enquirer report of affair
As you may be aware, the National Enquirer recently released a dishonest and misleading article which falsely characterized my friendship with Paula White. The publication, which is known for its bias against religious figures, misleads readers regarding the ministerial friendship I have had with Paula White for over 20 years.
As you know, my wife, Suzanne, filed for divorce at the beginning of this year. If it were not for the comfort of the precious Holy Spirit and the Word of God to give me encouragement throughout this process, I cannot imagine how I could have survived the past five months. Throughout this season, your love and prayers have helped strengthen me to continue ministering around the world. Were it not for your faithfulness and the presence of my wonderful Lord Jesus, the loneliness of carrying this burden by myself would have been unbearable.
In late May of this year, Paula White came to tape a This Is Your Day broadcast with me. Although I had not seen her for years, she was an encouragement to me and shared helpful advice out of her own painful experience. As a result, I will not deny that the friendship has strengthened, and, while it has remained morally pure at all times, I have enjoyed the company of someone who has also gone through the trauma of a painful and public divorce.
But most of you know me personally and know that I have faithfully preached the Gospel for over 35 years. I have never failed my marriage vows and would never dishonor the precious name of Jesus, whom I adore with all my being…and I never will! As I have often said, I would rather die than bring dishonor to His name.
And so I am writing to tell you today that I forcefully, categorically, and absolutely renounce the lies that have been spread about me and want to set the record straight with you. There is nothing inappropriate or morally improper about my friendship with Paula White.
There has been no immorality whatsoever!
The article also indicated that on a recent trip to Italy we met secretly and stayed together. This could not be further from the truth and is absolutely false! The truth is that we traveled independently to the region for respective ministry duties. I was invited by Vatican officials to visit the Vatican to discuss future ministry opportunities there. Paula was likewise invited to have meetings in the region, and, although we spent time together, we were never alone and were in the constant company of staff and family members.
That notwithstanding, I have become increasingly aware that the optics of this friendship have caused others to draw conclusions that are incomplete and unfounded. And because of my preeminent priority to my ministry and calling, Paula and I have concluded that we should avoid the appearance that our friendship is biblically impure or violates Scripture in any way. Paula and I also recognize that being seen in such settings is unwise, and we have independently determined that we will have no further social relationship until such time as my divorce has concluded and only if we feel direction from the Lord to do so.
I am using this season to seek the Lord and His Word as my Counselor and Guide as my family and I recover from the pain and disappointment of the loss of my marriage of over 30 years. My commitment to preaching the Gospel, as I have done for over 35 years, has only intensified through this experience; and the precious Lord Jesus I adore is the true love of my life and my unfailing companion for all eternity.
Thank you for your prayers, your love, and all your support for me and my family. You are precious to me and I will not fail you; but most of all I will never fail the wonderful Lord Jesus who is life and breath to me.

Those of us in the Christian community, who have worked with both Paula and Benny have heard this rumor for months; and from many, many different, unrelated sources.
Sadly, this came as no shock to many of us.
I don’t know. I think this is the scariest line:

I don’t feel a strong compulsion to defend our decision, I think regular BDBO readers are invested in pointing out direction if a post needs input, readers know we have the ability to think, weigh, play fair, admit error and not stick our heads in the sand because religious media outlets are far more cautious about ‘touching God’s anointed.’
I was thinking about this earlier today. Hinn’s show is on every Canadian religious TV station with the exception of Salt and Light. That’s a lot of air time, a lot of money coming into outlets with financial strain.
His preaching heresy, his theatrics, his tactics and finances haven’t given any Canadian media executives pause in the past. Apparently Paula White buys a lot of air time on US religious stations and networks.
A former TV exec I wrote got back to me, I appreciate his thinking here:
“In fact even as I’m writing this, its starting to hit me – if there is any teeth to a Benny/Paula story….my goodness this will shake the evangelistic world to the core…
And you know what BD… it wouldn’t be a bad thing if it did. The Bible talks about how the things that can be shaken will. It’s never good when people get hurt and so I do hope there is no truth to what is being said. But Paula? Benny?… I’m actually on their side and I find them ridiculous – I can only imagine what people of different
religious persuasions feel and think.”
This will play out…Kenneth Kidd at The Star may well know more than he’s written.

I see from Ulf Ekman’s nephew, the Swedish WoF minister has been embracing Catholic doctrine. If the Vatican invited Hinn, who else are they inviting? A lot of people go through those doors for all kinds of reason.

The time line shouldn’t be too difficult, Hinn’s statement invites fact-checking. On his terms, but fact-checking none the less.
Holding hands of course does not equal an affair.
Still, we’re talking two mature adults… These aren’t a couple innocent teenagers at the fair.
On the other hand, neither Hinn nor White is naive enough to think they can share such affection in public without notice.
So, now, they’ve decided it is unwise? HELLO!
I’m not ready to call this an affair. A relationship, though does seem fair.

Benny Hinn And Catholic Confusion
There is not an organization on the face of this earth that is more thoroughly demonic than Catholicism. It is riddled with heathen teachings and doctrines of devils. Yet, Hinn proudly stated, “My upbringing, of course, was Catholic in that I attended the Catholic school in Jaffa, Israel. And so my mentality basically is a Catholic mentality. When I was born again, I was Catholic in my ways. I was very Catholic in my ideas, in my behavior.” (Christianity Today, Sept. 3, 1991.)
Indeed, the mysticism that accompanies his ministry, and according to his words, has done so since the first time he spoke publicly, is in the very style of a medieval mystic.
Benny Hinn personally told two reporters from the Toronto Globe And Mail in an article dated December 25, 1976, about his first speaking engagement. This supposedly occurred on December 7, 1974, at the Trinity Pentecostal Church in Oshawa. His words were,
“I held up my hands to pray and the100 people present fell on the floor. That’s when I became aware of my tremendous

In his letter he said that Paula was on his show in late May. Then he said Quote;

I don’t think the National Enquirer’s “journalistic integrity” is any worse or better than any other “news/entertainment” outlet. I am loath to admit it, but the Enquirer has gotten a lot of stuff right over the past 15 years or so, starting with finding a picture of O.J. Simpson wearing those expensive “ugly *ss shoes” that he swore he had never worn, all the way through to exposing the John Edwards/Rielle Hunter affair and love child last year. (In fact, the Enquirer submitted that story to the Pulitzer Prize panel for news reporting!) And then, of course, the Enquirer was the first with the story that publicly squeaky-clean Tiger Woods was actually fooling around in the most egregious ways.
This is not your mama’s National Enquirer; I’d say that there’s some smoke here. Certainly Hinn and White are taking this very seriously (to wit, their very quick responses on a *weekend*).
It seems to me the biggest test is to hang on to faith while those who profess it ‘fall’ – ! Its so easy for those like the Benny’s of this world to become idols and then to get trapped in the delicious delights of its fruits –

1. I agree with the word “affair”. Besides, it’s difficult to have one when both of their spouses dumped them unceremoniously. Let’s call it a tryst.
2. I love pointing out Benny is at the Vatican and Paula is in the region! It’s probably because she can’t find the joint. It’s only 137 acres, you know.
3. When this broke off like a lit cigarette in the grasslands, those two were blowing each other up via text message, “Dear sister, we have to respond. Don’t do an interview. Just post a web reply.” And she said, “Word. I know dat’s da troof. Let’s do that, homeboy. Atta shut ‘em up. Peace to you, shorty.” (Contact your local Urban Dictionary for translation.)

I was once blind myself and by God’s grace, the LORD opened my eyes and heart. I came out of the Word of Faith and New Apostolic Reformation 2 1/2 years ago. My heart breaks for these people. In the old testament Deut. 13 God used false prophets to test people. 11 Thes. God sends stong delusion. One can help but ponder and wonder is the part of the stong delusion. Paul Washer preachered a sermon about this very thing. Like I have said on other blogs, the bigger the ministry, the bigger the following, the greater the fall and the more satan gets in the fall. Much grace and mercy to all who follow this man, my heart is grieved over this.
It apprears that Paula white is now linked up with the New Apostolic Reformation as well. Benny is also a part of this movement. The apostate church is thriving.

I don’t know if this story is true however I do know these two are have grossly perverted the gospel of Jesus Christ for their own selfish gain while making merchandise out of the name of Jesus and bilking millions from their gullible and biblically ignorant followers. They are both known to lie in the name of God, “thus says the Lord” when He has said no such things. The fierce wrath of Almighty God must hang over their unredeemed heads for all the lies they have spoken in His name, while we are all sinners lost apart from saving faith in Christ, my only prayer for these 2 vile sinners is that they repent and forsake lying in God’s name.
I think the lord will allow them to ‘thrive’ for as long as it serves his purposes ‘not theirs’.
As for being at the Vatican – one can only ‘assume’ they think the pope needs help!! I could say more but I won’t …………. dignity must prevail (in the face of theirs being er …. probed !)

One fact is this. about the evangelist’ actions
If you are walking with the Lord and doing all of his will.
You don’t need to defend yourself every time false accusations are directed at you.
Jesus never wrote a letter to the Pharisees etc. for all the lies told about Him.
Because He knew He was on course with God and God would watch over Him not allowing the enemy to destroy Him.
When you are NOT on course….that’s when you’ll have a lot of explaining to do,,,hummm?
Excellent point. God allows Benny’s ministry to continue because God allows Benny’s ministry to continue. I don’t get it, but I have to trust and believe that there’s a bigger picture. But at some point, God may take his ministry away from him when Benny gets too big for his britches.
Here’s a tidbit: get a reporter to ask Benny why Paula stayed at his house a few weeks ago instead of at a hotel. If you could get one of his security detail to talk you’d find out ALL kinds of things. Nothing criminal, but lots of stuff he’d hate for his partners to learn about and lots of stuff you’d think a preacher would know better than to do.
But those guys are professionals and ex-military guys. They don’t kiss and tell and they’ve all signed non-disclosure agreements. Even so, things get said on the inside.

This is funny, but the reason I began to research over two years ago was because of Paula White and Juanita Bynum divorces; found out all kinds of stuff I never knew. By the way reseach the UP CHURCH Pastor Della Reese who has been on TBN with Paul Crouch. The improtance of mentioning her is New Thought. That is where the WOF teachings come from and further back than that. She quotes on her website UP CHURCH Robert Shuller, Billy Graham, T D Jakes. Oprah and Joel Osteen were rebuked by Benny Hinn and his teaching come from the same place. You guys, google Rod Parsley July 4 2010. Benny Hinn taught on the Holy Trinity. That Benny Hinn’s extravagant side-show has been in business deceiving people for so many years, is evidence enough that there is no “good shepherd” watching over his flock. If he was the same yesterday, today and forever, Benny Hinn and his ilk, including the Vatican, would have been turfed long ago. And if that happened, then maybe believers would be doing the kinds of things that Jesus told them to do instead of spending time blogging about the sordid details of a corrupt man’s life.
I have been wondering, Benny was there to have meetings at the Vatican. I wonder why he felt he had to check in the hotel under a false name, David Salomon, or was he trying to hide something. David and Solomon both commited adultry, just thought I’d mention that., name very simuliar. Did Paula stay in a different holtel or did she stay with Benny in his room or did she have a diferent room in the same hotel under her own name.

I saw Paula White’s response letter in her website. Her’s and Benny’s letter looked the sam.. there are only some edited parts.. So, they did the writing together?
They haven’t said Audry, they do read the same, I’d say the same copy-writer.
Given that earlier this year they had different pr firms, it’s possible it was written by a staff member from one of their organizations.
I don’t know, and I suspect they aren’t going to say.

Come on now people! He without sin cast the first stone! THAT’S WHAT I THOUGHT!! We need to be praying for them not talking about em. If the accusations are true, God will deal with them.
No doubt something is going on between the 2 of them, but as someone mention ealier, people like Benny Hinn and Paula White have thousands of followers and the enemy will always attack and try to destroy the leaders cause he knows this way he will destroy many more. I hope and pray that during this time when the enemy is attacking those leaders that believers will be able to stay strong in God and have their eyes on God and not Benny Hinn or Paula White. Just because leaders fall we shouldn’t give up faith. All they are is mere men, liable to sin and fall, just like any other human being. We do harm when we put them on a pedastel they are not God. So if we view them from that point of view we would not be surprised when they fall. But pray for them that God will have mercy cause while we point our finger at them, we might be tempted ourselves. We are all but at the mercy of God. Just as David did not touch Saul the Lord’s anointed, even though Saul sinned and God departed from him, God did not take Saul out of the way imedietly but allowed him to go after David. There is a purpose in everything God allows. If there is sin in Benny Hinn’s ministry God will not allow him to continue much longer, God will deal with him, even as he himself preaches that God will allow that man of God to continue for a while if there is sin, but if he does not repent God will take him out of the way. But God is a very mercyfull God and he will give that time for a man of God to repent and turn back and get things right. I would like to see believers pray for what’s going on rather than criticizing and pointing fingers. When one of those leaders falls and in this case two of them, it brings much shame and reproach to the body of Christ which affects us all and our whitness for the Lord. Think about your own life, I am sure there are things you would not want the whole world to know about , and yes being a people of God with a public ministry they should know better, but that does not give us a licence to point finger and criticize but on the contrary to pray more for the body of Christ.
Benny Hinn is a plant of the Devil and I can’t say it any more clearly than that. King Saul was chosen of God but fell from grace. Further more King Saul did not burn $10,000 a night with hot looking female evangelists. We don,t place them on pedestals they place themselves on it and their plants flame the fires of idolatry and we get deceived by their cunning.
We should be praying for those of the us who have been scattered by these Wolves and not for the Wolves. Jesus warned us that these Wolves would come and tare into His sheep. Jesus told us that they would sound and look like us. Please do not under value the Lord’s warnings about this. Souls have been damaged by these Wolves in sheep’s clothing and it is God’s sheep we should be protecting and praying for not the Wolves who have millions of dollars of the sheep’s money just burning in their pockets. Their is a time coming, and I believe it is soon, when the Lord is not going to expose these Wolves and all the plants that empower them but He will burn them up while they live. Until then it is our duty to protect the sheep.

Wow there’s a lot of anti-Benny Hinn people out there. I think all you people are getting worked up over what the *national enquirer* is saying. I mean this magazine has written a lot of garbage over the years. I stand by Benny Hinn 100%. Do you think God would still be using him by healing people and casting out demons if he was committing such a horrible sin as adultery and fornication, think about it people. If there’s any preacher that I would stand by during such harsh allegations it would be Benny. I remember last year when Benny said God told him to seek and pray more than he ever has. That’s why his wife is divorcing him, he’s putting God first above all things. We should all put God before our wife and other things.

I know He started right and hope and pray he will end right, it’s hard, when God uses him so much the enemy will attack and there will always be people that will criticize him and controversy will always follow his ministry.
The way we know is by the way he will finish and yes the media will dig and dig till they will find all the dirt there is, if there is any, but i do stand by him and ask that believers pray for him rather than judge. That’s what true believers do, they dont judge and criticize one another they pray and help one another. when one goes through hard time and difficulty the rest of the body of Christ feels it and they pray.

Charlie, you seriously believe that Benny’s wife is divorcing him because he is seeking God more now? Do you know them personally and that’s how you know that? Or are you judging?
Benny Hinns ‘career’ as an Evangelist – is on the wane, now maybe he will be able to understand that money, at the end of the day, does not enable redemption or a ticket to the fathers heart ! Benny’s preaching led hundreds to believe that ‘he knew exactly ‘what was required to meet with and be cleansed by and healed by a loving Father – It seems to me that all those things Benny ‘convinced himself and us of must now come home to roost to Benny. He has had a good life – travelled extensively, preached his way round the nations and peoples and has been ‘covered’ from ‘REALITY’ with the donations of thousands who figured that Benny had what it took to get them ‘home’-
Benny is seems ‘has slightly fallen from the grace of some – remains silver tounged to the ears of many – and has led just as many to doubt and fear as he journey’d through the vineyards of man sometimes in slippers, sometimes in boots and sometimes in a grand delusion of I AM – Who is Benny Hinn and what has ‘kept’ him, until now, from the results of scrutinies investigations ! Would you trust Benny to reveal to you heaven – or is he now showing us that in Paula maybe he has ‘found a version of it that he is going to try and convinve us is the Lords way of saying ‘Well done ‘ Benny ‘ true and trusted friend ‘dessert and a ‘free for all’ is now on the menu – No faith in man is as fleeting as his emotions and desires on any given day at any given time – My faith is to precious to be placed there

First of all your wrong. Husband love your wife as Christ love the church. I do not see Benny laying his life down for his wife. Don’t think Jesus would say put everthing esle above and before your wife. Our first ministry starts at home. Husbands are to lead their home with love, under submission to the LORD, getting his own home in order. According to 1 Tim 3 Benny should be asked to step down according to the Word of the LORD. How can he preach the gospel, if his own home is out of order. He by all means should take time off and go to Suzanne and reconcil this marriage. Looking at the situation, now we see why he has not done that. A picture paints 1000 words. This thing has come full circle. What I mean by that is this, I started researching this WOF movement because of Paula white and Juanita B divorcing and now it is back to her again.
By the way God used a donkey and God will not share his GLORY with on one especially Benny Hinn and Paula White. The God of the bible willl not be mocked.
However you preach another Jesus you preach another gospel.. Benny Hinn teaches tritheism not monotheism and Paula White doesn’t even believe that Jesus is the only begotten son of God. You charlie are following another gospel Gal 1 11 Cor 11:4.
