In a status hearing Friday, lawyers for Eddie Long, senior minister of Atlanta’s New Birth Missionary church and four young men who accused Long of told the judge they wanted to enter into mediation with a goal toward settlement. Lawyers will meet in February and again in July of next year.
If both sides agree to settle, evidence and agreement is kept secret. Long’s mentor Earl Paulk who was involved in sexual misconduct over several decades settled many of his cases out of court.

New Birth Church and Longfellows Academy filed with the court November 9th refusing to confirm or deny Long had inappropriate relationships with the four men.
Long is also facing a lawsuit by State Bank and Trust and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp over a gym purchase and defaulted loan totalling over 1.8 million dollars.

This case is about one of the affluent ones. The influence of one minister who wielded riches along with the power to affect these young men, which formed some type of allegiance to Eddie Long and his ministry. However, the allegiance was not maintained.

I can see it’s very important, that we keep an open eye on our own shortcomings, for we are all sinners saved by grace. For those who seek God, there is apolouo. God will forgive and transform our lives, without any compromising.
Laws632 – Will the dead letter ever be able to open eyes that are blind or set captives free? Has it ever? Those are questions I’m really asking myself these days. Yes, it’s instructive, and points the way, but it doesn’t have any power in itself. The church needs to do better than that because I really suspect that everyone here is capable of reading and able to see what is written for themselves – it therefore seems demeaning and unhelpful just to keep throwing it in people’s faces. For myself I’ve come to the conclusion that we need to become a vessel that the Lord can use to speak forth a LIVING word that does not bring death and give power to sin like the law, but which contains love and truth and power, having the ability to reveal and pull down strongholds that we are utterly helpless to deal with ourselves, while somehow at the same time bringing comfort and covering a multitude of sins. A word that will draw all men to Himself.
Laws632, you really get your kicks from telling people that billions will be tortured for eternity by a God of love, mercy, compassion and forgiveness, don’t you? Read your bible again. It says “For it is written, as I live, saith the lord every knee shall bow to me and every tongue shall confess God” Romans14:11. Our lots are cast according to His, Yahweh’s will. There is where we see our predestination. According to Ephesians 1:11, there is a verb in there that means “to appoint by lot.” We can’t be chosen by earning salvation, or deserving it. There we are again, back to Yahweh’s grace. It appears to me it all boils down to God’s grace and His will. In John 6:65 , it shows we are not in God’s will because of our merits.
Amen Susan, and the Potter has the right to do what He wants with His own clay. A smart lump of clay would humble itself in the Potter’s hands and ask to be made into a vessel of honour, rather than be thrown out or made into a toilet. Perhaps He will honour such a request from a contrite lump, but He doesn’t have to. It’s not about the clay, it’s about the Potter. Some lumps value themselves and the other lumps more highly than the Potter, which is simply silly. What after all is a lump of clay without the Potter – just dirt.
