Christian broadcaster Crossroads Television System (CTS) has been found in violation of broadcasting codes for statements made by evangelical television personality and minister Charles McVety that implied there was a “malevolent, insidious and conspiratorial purpose” to the activities of homosexuals.
From July 2009 through February 2010 Mcvety disparaged homosexuals on his tv show Word TV, formerly Word.ca. (corrected – BD)
So The Canadian Broadcast Standards Council gave McVety a few words.
“My good name has been impugned by this report,” he said.
Here is the CBSC decision. Charles is all upset he wasn’t notified, but technically CTS who would have had to respond to complaints lodged with the CBSC were well aware. If they didn’t tell McVety, oh well, too bad, so sad.
CTS, which is a member of the council, said it would take the “required steps to make sure our programs are in compliance.” Crossroad Television is required to read the decision on air and to make sure similar offences do not occur again.

Update: McVety is wearing his temporary suspension as a badge of honour, and with a decided lack of knowledge on what The Canadian Broadcast Standards Council is. Time for the infamous McVety cherry picking outrage:
On Wednesday December 8th the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council launched a vicious attack against free speech and Word TV, knocking the program from CTS until further notice. Word TV is deemed to be malevolent, insidious, and conspiratorial for using the term ‘sex parade’ and opposing the proposed Ontario Sex Ed curriculum.
The CBSC convicted Word TV without a hearing and national Chair admits that neither he or the council have read the Ontario sex ed curriculum. How can they convict Word TV of an opinion on a document without reading the document? Mr. Cohen says that their decision is final with no process of appeal.
Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees freedom of speech, opinion, press and religion.
How can Mr. Cohen subvert our basic freedoms?
Who gave him the authority to condemn us and evil and insidious?
Why is there no hearing, representation or appeal?
That Mr. Cohen attacks us. Tomorrow it may be you.
Read the Human Rights clause in the CAB Code of Ethics. When you have done that McVety, read the Religious Programming Clause. Oh, then have a look see at the Negative Portrayal Clause of the CAB Equitable Portrayal Code. If you don’t like Canada’s private broadcasters self-policing, then go back to buying time on stations not interested in industry self-regulation, such as The Miracle Channel who is not a member of The CBSC.

The Council’s membership includes more than 730 private sector radio and television stations, specialty services and networks from across Canada, programming in English, French and third languages.
McVetys show is also on ichannel, which is a member of the CBSC.There is no teeth to the CBSC decision other than a public shaming of CTS and Word TV, but at least the decision is public.
Update: CTS is putting McVety’s show, WordTV back on the air. They assigned an editor. This could get interesting. Given his drama filled statement released about the CBSC and his inability to control himself, if up to half the show winds ups edited, what is left to fill the time? McVety commercials? No word on ichannels decision about carrying WordTV.

McVety is not on the air on CTS TV. His telecast
however, available on his website. The program
in its place is a gospel music performance.
I can quite understand why he’s not on tonight.
His website program features
McVety mischaracterising the Canadian
Broadcast Standards Council by calling them
the censor board. Moreover, he is confusing his
viewers by not clarifying the difference between
programming and content and that leads them
to come to the wrong conclusions.
Karla Homolka did the same thing years ago–
portray herself as the victim when, indeed,
she was the wrongdoer. That’s McVety’s ploy
now. Stephen Harper and his Conservatives
do the same thing–as did Ron and Reynold
Mainse with the pyramid scheme.
How much longer will CTS stand for this nonsense
particularly now when it is trying to revamp its image
with their viewers?

Glenn Allan on the air for several months now.
I wonder what happened with and to him.
Has he ended up the same way as Paul Willoughby and
Nite Lite Live?
Of course, there’s not a word from CTS TV on these
matters. At this rate, how long can CTS go on and
leave viewers in the dark and with inconsistent programming?
Torontonian, McVety’s program shows up on The Miracle Channel’s schedule for today, but I can’t tell you whether it aired or not. It was supposed to be on at 8:30 p.m. mountain time.
Since The Miracle Channel doesn’t bother being part of it’s peer group as a member of the CBSC, they could run the program without a backlash. How many Miracle Channel viewers would know what the CBSC is?
Open question – did Ichannel and TMC run McVety’s show?
He admits the CSBC isn’t governmental and then goes on to make claims such as James Dobson is a preacher etc.
His thinking is getting as desperately cluttered as his website.
Bene, and why would TMC ever bother to join their peers… It would mean having to follow a code of ethics and abide by certain standards within their broadcasting. Yeah, that would be the day…
A broadcaster can act ethically without being a member of the CBSC Tim.

Membership fees for the CBSC are revenue based, I’m not sure why TMC sees a benefit of not being a member.
Over at ichannel, the last show listed for McVety is 433 in November. His latest is 443, but his site lists his next air date as January 30th in his regular time slot.

I haven’t seen the show for ages but I’m pretty sure Charles McVety said it the way it really is as far as promotion of homosexuality, etc. is concerned these days. People should be free to say what they really think even when poeple’s feelings are hurt. That is the democratic way. The way we are going, we may end up with a communistic or a nazi system and I know what I am talking about.

My friend it is sad, but what Charles Mcvety states as you know is very true, most homosexual men and women were molested as children by other homosexual men or women bringing them into the sad life style of this what the world now calls the gay movement! As the bible teaches us in Genesis and the book of Judges, when gays become leaders of the land, rape of men and women become the normal act of society, demanding the right too know/rape any who they encounter, if not allowed to do so they are prejudice, or bigoted is what society begins demanding due to their sick acts! As in sodom those infected/possessed by the infection of sin begin demanding all be perverted so they can feel normal!

I honestly don’t know any Christians who accept what he says, but I know there are some who do, specifically religious right groups in the US set up to further their agenda.

I know you are repeating what you have been taught, but repeating doesn’t make it true.
McVety was booted off for repeating lies and mis-characterizations, not for his religious beliefs. That is apparent with even a cursory read of the CBSC document. According to CTS, he refused to comply with their ethical code, which has nothing to do with his religious belief.
