Ann Voscamp One Thousand Gifts

Her photographs are so beautiful they make you ache. Her words are strung together with the strength of a spider web and as delicately as the veins in a butterfly wing.  Canadian Ann Voscamp blogs at A Holy Experience and she has just had her first book published. It’s already a sensation. Ann Voscamp is a Mennonite mom who lives on a farm in Ontario. Her first book One Thousand Gifts: A Dare To Live Fully Right Where You Are (Zondervan. 2010) is creating serious buzz. Voscamp cannot be dismissed as your average ‘mommy blogger’ or greeting card writer; ask men who read her blog or who have picked up her book.

You may want to turn down the sound when you go to her blog, she has piano music embedded and you might appreciate silence to let her words sing. Be prepared to stay and read, and read…
You can read the first chapter of One Thousand Gifts here.

I have enjoyed every morsel of this book. Day after day It looked forward to coming home from work, reading the next chapter followed by the video – blessing upon blessing. Learning lessons about myself with each line, each paragraph, each chapter – I continued to read. I received a hurt one day and came home praying all the way wondering how to process it. I prayed for His Holy guidance in my reading of One Thousand Gifts – and received it! Chapter 4 gave me what I needed to hear from Him. It was something He had been trying to tell me all along – from others it offended, from Him it humbled. Then, a few days later, I prayed for my joy to return – Chapter 7 – page 130 – Joy restored! Thank you, thank you – I am practicing euchariesto daily – making my list – oh so thankful!
