Benny Hinn drops lawsuit against tweeter

Phil Cooke, author of The Last TV Evangelist, producer and media consultant, has issued an apology to Benny Hinn for an incorrect tweet.

”My tweet last month that Benny Hinn was engaged was wrong — my source was mistaken. I’m sorry and apologies to Benny Hinn and his children.”

Cooke tweeted that apology.:^)

In return Benny Hinn dropped his defamation lawsuit against Cooke.

An Orlando Sentinel blog says the tweet showed up online January 10th. A Hinn press release states:

In a tweet dated January 10, 2011, Mr. Cooke wrote, “TV EVANGELIST NEWS: Benny Hinn and Paula White reported engaged. Prayer cloths are rejoicing everywhere.”

Cooke’s utterly false report resulted in embarrassment and adverse financial consequences to Pastor Hinn, his family, and his church.

After Hinn filed suit, Cooke agreed to, among other things, recant his fallacious tweet.

The pr calls Cooke a ‘ Christian self described media consultant’. Oh ouch. I wonder what the ‘among other things’ are that Cooke had to agree too.
Hinn is currently being sued by Stephen Strang (Strang Communications/Charisma Media).

Perhaps Cooke has been asked not to denigrate rejoicing prayer cloths?

Update: Phil Cooke responds.

If I were Hinn and had been (allegedly) caught in a hotel halfway around the world with Paula White (he allegedly checked in under a fictitious name, as if Benny Hinn could ever go incognito) and photographed strolling down a Paris street hand in hand with her, I don’t think some schmuck on the internet tweeting that the two of them are engaged (which was obviously a joke) would even be on my radar. You’d think he’d have much bigger worries than that. Like his ex-wife taking him to the cleaners.

Did he ever sue The National Equirer for reporting the story of his alleged affair (who believes anything in the Enquirer?) and the photos of the two of them together?

These preachers must keep fleets of lawyers (along with their fleets of luxury vehicles) just to squelch any bad press.

Got it Phil, thanks you. Some funny comments at your blog.:^)

Interesting Benny didn’t bother to have his people call your people, but goes on about being the victim of Strangs lack of communication with that lawsuit.
Methinks the man doth protest too much.
