Former cabinet minister Stockwell Day has started a government relations strategy consulting firm in Vancouver. Stockwell Day Connex has no partners and will provide “strategic approaches to issues.” His website states his firm will not do lobbying.
Day says he doesn’t want to live on his 64 thousand dollar pension and already has clients.
Ottawa Citizen:
A Citizen review of lobbying records shows that, when in cabinet, Day had numerous contacts with the government relations industry.
Since the summer of 2009, when lobbyists were legally required to report communications with public-office holder, lobbyists have logged 116 contacts with Day on a variety of subjects.
He also accepted a post as distinguished fellow to the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada.
Under the The Conflict of Interest Act introduced by the Conservatives a former public office holder can’t give advice to clients etc., using information obtained in office which is not available to the public.
I wonder if pentecostal and charismatic groups will be beating a path to his new firm. I’ve no doubt business and industry people in that community will, if they can afford his services. Day was a point person for evangelicals to the PMO while in office.
As a private citizen Day is not required to disclose his clients.
Ottawa Citizen reporter Glen McGregor lists the firms (since 2009) who were required to report thier lobbying to then Minister Day at Afewtastfulsnaps.
Day is also known for his long time friendship with neo-charismatic Faytene Grasseschi (nee Kryskow) as documented in Marci McDonald’s book: The Armageddon Factor, and here at BDBO. No one I’m aware of ever found out how Grasseschi was able to secure full security passes to Parliament Hill, which as I understand it (I don’t have my copy of the book at the moment) were borrowed from The National House of Prayer. Now married, Grasseschi, (nee Kryskow) has moved to Maripoza Arizona. She speaks at various churches in Canada and is holding another TheCry rally on Parliament Hill in August.
While Stockwell Day endorsed Grasseschi’s books, I don’t recall him showing up at these rallies. Other federal politicians haven’t been as shy.
The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada and and Christian Reform Churches of Canada legally lobbied Day when he was Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway.
