A few weeks ago Robert Schuller was ousted from the board of the church he founded and was supposedly kept on as chairman emeritus so he could devote his time to other things such as writing. Now it appears that the Crystal Cathedral board has been restructured again and Schuller is able to vote again:
The Crystal Cathedral has reorganized its board and reinstated founder Robert H. Schuller as a voting member.
A statement released by the Garden Grove church Thursday said the board, which oversees the “Hour of Power” broadcast, voted last Friday to expand its size.
The board, which used to have five members, now has nine, including representatives from the local church congregation. Only three members of the old board remain: the elder Schuller, his wife and Jim Penner, who is married to Schuller’s daughter Gretchen.
Rick Mysse, a former official with the church’s denomination, and Gwyn Myers, a financial consultant for the church, were voted off the board, and Sheila Schuller Coleman, the senior pastor, was given a non-voting spot on it.
Spokesman John Charles said part of the reason Mysse and Myers were ousted was because they had voted to remove Schuller’s voting rights in June. Myers is no longer a consultant for the church, he said.
The moves come nearly four weeks after the church said Schuller had been promoted to chairman emeritus, a non-voting position, denying that he had been ousted from the board.
