I’m a great believer in people having fun with their faith, but now Robert Grasseschi is reportedly being, well, a little different.
A few days ago, wife Faytene Grasseschi put this update on her Facebook wall:
Faytene Grasseschi
My husband is singing in tongues to the tune of “On The Road Again”…..wow. That should release some grace for the next leg! Going north, then south, then west. I love Canada.
I’m glad that Faytene and her friends are having a bit of fun with this.
But I do wonder…I do not have the gift, but I am led to understand that when you speak in tongues, the Holy Spirit both controls what you say and how you say it. Unless the Holy Spirit is a big Willie Nelson fan [
], I wonder how you could leave yourself open to saying what God wants you to, while you yourself direct how it is said.
Anyways, I would like to make a note of it as one of those things that may raise your eyebrow or makes you go “hmm”. At least he’s not typing in tongues on, as US evangelist Juanita Bynum allegedly did in Facebook a couple of weeks ago. People had a lot to say about that.
If Robert is not treating the gift appropriately (and I want to be fair and do not want to say that that is the case), we can be grateful that he isn’t a fan of early 60s music as I am.
Well, may Robert progress in the gift if he really has it.

1 Corinthians 14 mentions about the use of spiritual gifts in the Church in Corinth, Greece.
My Scofield Bible Commentary is at home as I’m using a bible at the library where I am now.
The Scofield has a commentary mentioning about the Corinth Church as I think an Apostolic Prophetic Church.
Ch 14 advises the readers about the appropriate ways in which to use spiritual gifts.
Preoccupation with speaking in tongues can be a sign of spiritual immaturity
I think in 1 Corinthians 12:10 tongues has more to do with a distiction of many languages of man. Then, in 1 Corinthians 13:1 there is the reference where Paul mentions tongues of angels. I get the impression in this verse, the tongues of angels are more about divine messages, that are irrefutable.
It might well be possible that she was saying that tongue-in-cheek (pun not originally intended).
We’ve all (unless you have a steel-trap memory) sung nonsense-lyrics when we get stumped on the words on a song. That could wind up sounding like “singing in tongues” to a charismatic with a sense of humor.
I’ve been known to describe myself as “cussing in tongues” when I grumble under my breath. The only thing the Holy Spirit might be doing at the time is keeping me from saying something regretful.
….Foolishness,Immaturity,….But it sounds kind of intriguing ….I guess,
I’ve sung in tongues before. I suppose the Holy Ghost could lead someone to sing to a tune. Who knows. But the Nar movement as a whole tends to turn God into a full time goofball. I was on youtube the other day listening to some IHOP music and had no peace about some of it. Some of the prophetic songs seem to come out of human minds and imagination, not the Holy Ghost. It’s easy to prophesy out of feelings, not the Spirit, and that is what scares me there. Although they do love the Lord and sometimes have it right. I’ve been saved nearly 25 years and have been in these circles. The people love God but just get off at times. It’s important that we all stick to the Bible and spend alot of time with God so we can discern. And love one another.
Give me a break. I can’t believe this loon and his self induced insanity is even deserving of discussion. If it wasn’t labeled as religion, this guy would be getting psychiatric help. These days it’s getting harder and harder to tell the difference between faith and mental illness. Christianity is burying itself.
But for you Christians – you should all see the obvious in these holy spirit pimps. Why is it only the “nice” gifts that get demonstrated? Where are those with the gifts that catch lying prophets in their words and strike them dead before all to see? That’s biblical. How about discernment. That’s biblical. Does god only care about making us feel good nowadays? Where is the fear of god and the fear of your soul being thrown into hellfire? Isn’t that kind of important? Don’t you know what your bible says about the purpose of speaking in tongues, especially in public? And you’re all treating it like it “could” be from god, and we don’t want to say anything negative to piss him off.
Aachh! One has to wonder how seriously people live what they say they believe.
Here, get educated. http://www.christianitydisproved.com/brain.html
….Christianity is burying itself..LMAO
Don,t throw the baby out with the bathwater…..
That logic would be like saying….ahhh…ummm,General Motors is burying itself…
GM was bailed out with my tax money, just like Christianity keeps being propped up with my tax money. At least GM makes nice cars.
According to Dr. William T. Samarin, professor of anthropology and linguistics at the University of Toronto,
“….glossolalia consists of strings of meaningless syllables made up of sounds taken from those familiar to the speaker and put together more or less haphazardly …. Glossolalia is language-like because the speaker unconsciously wants it to be language-like. Yet in spite of superficial similarities, glossolalia fundamentally is not language.”
glossolalia fundamentally is not language.”….This is a silly statement of the obvious…!
glossolalia,is primarily Spirit to Spirit communication,
However, it is not limited to such….There are numerous other human applications!
That was a nice little cut & paste job,I guess…
GM is 75% chinese
“glossolalia,is primarily Spirit to Spirit communication,”
Brano, you might educate yourself on fantasy-prone personality. Evidence shows that some FPP individuals were abused as children (statistically much more than non-FPP) and it is therefore suspected that these children retreated into a fantasy world in order to escape a very unpleasant environment.
Research indicates that this subset of humanity is disproportionately responsible for a large number of reported paranormal experiences, including ghosts, angels, aliens, abductions, out of body experiences, near death experiences, reincarnation, and others.
Sorry to understand your misfortune.
Thanks for the pop-psychology tip and more test tube, western, linear thought…
Was that drivel from a copy of psychology today from the 80,s…zzzzzzzzzzz
Brabo .. I’m really sorry you can’t stand facts – especially when they contradict your medieval mindset, however if you are going to pout, at least have the decency to cite some evidence in support of your position. You start out calling glossolalia foolishness and immaturity, then switch positions and call it “spirit to spirit communication”.
I do understand that at your level of comprehension that it’s hard to take and defend a position – but this sandbox temper tantrum, throwing toys is really becoming tiresome.
Either say something worth listening to – or shut up.
Gee Whiz Mr Kind AtheistAtBirth….please continue with your piffle and all of you wonderful FACTS…lmao
Its most amuzing when Agnostics,Atheists,Maxixst,s….whatever,…When, then try to talk intelligently about Spiritual things,of which they can only cut and paste,
Maybe stick to popular mechanics & Psychology Today
Here is a fact from 1 Corinthians 12:28, genos glossa, meaning various kinds of languages. It can be tedious, but useful, to study the root meanings of words translated from the Bible. For example, like diverse kinds of fish, birds, dogs, cats, etc. Each has it’s own sound to communicate. The dog for instance, there are many breads with distict sounds. Just the same, there are many diverse human’s, white, black, asian, indian, etc., who speak a different tongue (language). Just the same we are all human.
Look at the word “church” in the Bible. It’s a translation meaning to gather together. It comes from the greek word Ekklasia. When I looked at the root meaning, one of it’s meanings is an assembly. When one hears the word church today, they could associated it with an organization. I think that could be misleading. Why? God is bigger than a “church” building and it’s organization. Back in the biblical days they assembled in homes and Sunagoga. (From the Greek)
Anyhow, genos glossa is documented in the pages of time and transcends time with a wonderful knowledge to glean off of.
…Some context to consider,
Acts 10:46 CJB
on the Goyim, for they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Kefa’s response was,

So, my brothers, eagerly seek to prophesy; and do not forbid speaking in tongues;
Apparently the fact I was a pentecostal charismatic for 35 years escaped your attention. But your bible study was a lovely touch Brano, and stating the bible “facts” Susan almost brought a tear to my eye – as if a quote from the most untrustworthy, unreliable, error filled, factually irrelevant book ever written would somehow impress anyone. Care to have a tongue speaking contest? No one would be able to tell the difference between the three of us – I can replicate the experience at will today while I disdain the holy spirit, elaborate on the myth of Christ, and dare anyone to produce evidence of this so-called god of theirs. Some exclusivity.
But Robert Grasseschi singing in tongues is about as amusing as the thought of comparing dogs barking to the transition of time – as though the passing of the centuries adds an ounce of credibility to a scientifically false experience. But believe your nonsense – your stereotypical babbling is what hastened my departure from the church, and is sure to add consequence to the misery other Christians who are hanging on to their faith by a thread – and deliver them also out of the need to live in the real world and believe in the ancient superstitions of Christianity.
Post note to Brano and Susan.
Is this ALL you have? Are these the only arguments you can muster? Have you NO better? Is THAT it?
You make me laugh uncontrollably.
Kind Mr AtheistAtBirth,
…Could you please Enlighten us with your Ivory Tower rhetoric…and your Quasi-Psydo high school drivel
Please, just leave the sand box girlfriend
Ignorance, does not count! re:….ancient superstitions of Christianity.
Now That Is Funny!!!
Um, brano, it appears AtheistAtBirth has already left the sandbox and when he comes back to warn you that those dark lumps aren’t clay and that they’re actually cat shit, you just laugh and carry on your merry. Well brano, you can mould cat shit just as easily as clay and as long as you remain too stubborn to learn the difference between the two, you’ll never really know what you’re playing with, will you…
Enjoy building your little sand castles, and if you need to find us, we’ll be somewhere outside the sandbox constructing useful things from non-fecal matter…
So yah,as I was saying,I was having a time of glossolalia,as I was doing some work outside a Sikh temple,….along came an older Sikh man who stopped and looked at me rather shocked and amazed!..He then approached me and spoke in broken English and asked me if I knew what I was saying….With much surprise and excitement,He told me about what I was saying…
He was stunned that I was able to praise Jesus in his native language!
glossolalia….Love it!…..It started by CHANCE,as I was walking home from school one day in the late fall
Now lets just jump to Pentecost for a moment shall we…
No,lets Not as the Maxists,Psycholgists,Athiests,Agnostics….will have their trite re-buttles
Guess I will just have to mold some more cat shit!
Brano …
Okay. Lets say we believe you. Just for fun, please tell us the exact time, location, and date this occurred. Then give us your full name and address, and the full name and address of the Sikh involved, plus the name of the temple at which this is supposed to have occurred. Please provide the names, addresses and occupations of at least 3 reliable, unbiased witnesses who were present, and can account for this “miracle”, and a written copy of their notarial signed testimony and verification as to the events described. Please elaborate in detail EXACTLY what he “said”.
If you can do this – we will pass the information along to a secular group in your area for additional study, and to see if they might be interested in investigating it.
Since your actions constitute a miracle, and since NO miracle has ever, in the history of mankind, ever been documented and proven, then this will be a first for humanity.
….. otherwise please keep your delusions to yourself.
(My guess is that you are full of catshit)
Mr KindAtheistAtBirth,
Let us start with the very basics shall we….
Glossolalia is a gift…It is NOT a miracle!
Glossolalia is the least-lesser of all the gifts
Glossolalia is thus, rather elementary
Excuse me,as my cat needs some din din, zzzzzzzzzzzzz
Later I will take a few pieces of cat hair, put it in a sterilized test tube take it to the lab,for DNA work..etc,just to make sure it is a cat and not a dog!
After that is done I will muster all the faith I can, before I sit and have a glass of good red wine….Because as we all know, it alot of takes FAITH to sit on a chair-Just becuase the blinking thing may not hold me up,like it was made to do…
Oh Mr KindAtheistAtBirth,I do admire your faith!
http://bible.org/article/speaking-tongues
Lehman Strauss would disagree with you …
I’d imagine Faytene Grasseschi would vehemently disagree also. Your theology is as full of catshit as your tall tales. “Basics” describes it very well.
I’m very sorry if I’ve been misunderstood. I don’t speak in a charasmatic tongue. I’ve seen far too many scriptures that indicate likwise. For example, these two verses in the Old Testament: Is. 28:11,12 and Dt. 28:49. I won’t even go into the NT. I’ve been around those who do. I don’t. Christianity needs people who can relay to others, the gospel in their native language, so the unbelievers hear the gospel too. That’s what I see in the NT.
Susan:
Thank you for pointing out to us the reason why there are over 30,000 variations of Christianity.
You can’t find 2 Christians who believe exactly the same way, never mind several dozen, or several hundred.
The reason is the ambiguous and contradictory manner in which the bible is written – plus the fact that it is filled with legends, myths, half truths and mostly outright lies, and yet it STILL asks believers to form a religious base.
When you one day get off your lazy boy chair and go to a good library and actually study the way the bible was put together, and read and learn about how pagan religions influenced the narrative, and actually study the history of the first 3 centuries with a focus on historical affirmation of the gnostic, biblical confirmation of the person of Jesus – maybe then you will wake up from your dogmatic induced slumber and actually have an opinion based on fact. Until then, your misunderstanding is self induced.
You want find any two people exactly alike. If this world were a place like that, to me it would be very boring.
There is enough Old and New Testament history, with their geneologies and significant events to keep you busy for a long time. Not to mention the Kings, conquerors, wars and battles.
If you’re as smart as you believe you are…, then you will know it’s difficult to dispute the transformations from Phoenician/Hebrews to early greek, Etruscan, Latin and the Modern alphabet. With each time period the history will unfold. Don’t take my word for it…..it’s out there.
Oh, I don’t own a Lazy Boy chair.
Mr Kind AtheistAtBirth,
Please send me your SIN #,Your DOB,and current address and a sterile test tube, and a fresh sample of cat shit,So that me and mt collegues can determine,if,indeed it is cat shit
P.S….The Wisdom of man,is but Foolishness to GOD
Susan, say the bible god is real. And the bible is true and and an accurate account given to us about god about who this god is, what he has done, what he will do and when and what he expects of us and so on. Does it not seem odd that this god, knowing how different each of us are and how differently we each process and filter information, does it not seem odd that he would not make those all important attributes mentioned very clear and concise with no room for personal interpretation?
When you teach a child not to touch a hot stove, how many ways do you tell them so that they do not misinterpret your instructions and get burned? When we’re talking about the difference between landing up in glorious paradise or eternal damnation, you would think god would have written his word so clear and simple that even the most dimwitted person would understand and either accept it or reject it. But no. God’s word is so subjective anyone can make it say what they want. Not a lot of forethought in that one on god’s part. (But then the bible does mention that god admits he screwed up a few times regrettably.) When people want to believe something bad enough they will overlook or ignore the most plain evidence when it’s staring them right in the face. Funny humans.
But “god” didn’t write/dictate that important book concisely did he?. He did not ensure that it was written and handed down in such a way that no one could deny that it was authored by a supreme being. He could have easily overcome the problem of language translations, he’ s god right? But he didn’t. He did not ensure that to one person hell is allegorical and to another a literal burning eternity. Why does it take human “experts”, (theologians) to figure out why the “generation” did pass away and those things didn’t happen like Jesus said they did and then they can’t even agree? Because either god screwed up or he is not the author.
On the contrary, god’s word reads more like a more primitive barbaric human’s genius than an all wise god’s. There are too many character flaws in god to mention. We as a civilization have truly risen above the moral depravity of the bible god, not because of, but in spite of what the bible has to say.
Imagine if our institutions of higher learning taught curriculum in the same manner and style in which the bible was written? There would be no absolutes, only postulations about what is true. Science relishes in being proved and disproved. But not so when it comes to religion and holy books. Thank goodness that in our evolved capacity to think and reason and figure stuff out, we have surpassed the wisdom of the author, whosoever that may be, of the bible.
Brano …
At least try to get the quote correct if you are making a point from scripture.
1 Corinthians 1:25
New International Version (©1984)
“For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength.”
Sometimes I think life can be like sitting in a room, alone, waiting for the correct answers to life’s questions and concerns, to show up. When you get tired of waiting in the room, then you poke your head out the door. Only to find a long hallway, with infinity on the left and infinty on the right. Just what are the right answers and choices in life?
For me, I love to search God’s word. It knocks on my door. I open that door and welcome Him in. I love His ways, far above mine and desire to know more. That’s all I have and all I know to say.
Bottomline, like infinity, no one knows just how far God’s love reaches. We human’s, we have our limits.
“no one knows just how far God’s love reaches”
Evidently not far enough to spare a few thousand lives from the delusions of men doing the will of their god and killing a few thousand people in the New York towers. Or saving a little 3 year old boy from the clutches of an alleged kidnapping pedophile in B.C.
Yes, we are fragile, but God is eternal. So, are our weakness a justification for sin? Do we ignore His compassions? The truth is things in this world do fade away. Interestingly enough, God’s word is still out there.
Knowledge without Experience = Catso
*Please Note:The Bible was Not written an author…Thank goodness that in our evolved capacity to think and reason and figure stuff out, we have surpassed the wisdom of the author, whosoever that may be, of the bible.
*Please refer to Theology 101 for the answer to:Evidently not far enough to spare a few thousand lives from the delusions of men doing the will of their god and killing a few thousand people in the New York towers. Or saving a little 3 year old boy from the clutches of an alleged kidnapping pedophile in B.C.
* Mr KindAtheistAtBirth,I was using a paraphrase….1 Corinthians 1:25….But thanks for the NIV
*All TRUE Believers around the Globe,AGREE,That Jesus is the one and only KING
Jezus Brano you need the gift of interpretation of tongues to try and understand what you are saying. What is it you are saying besides a cobbled drunken slur?
zzzzzzz….Answer a Fool according to his Folly….zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Brano …
Once again, your dismal knowledge of the bible shows through. Paraphrasing again?
The proper quote is:
Proverbs 26:4
New International Version (©1984)
“Do not answer a fool according to his folly, or you will be like him yourself.”
…LMAO
Question 3. Whence knowest thou thy misery?
Answer: Out of the law of God. (a)
(a) Rom.3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin
“To argue with a person who has renounced the use of reason is like administering medicine to the dead.”
— Thomas Paine
ChristianAtBirth…HE knew me before I was born,I was created in HIS image!
Brano,
“He [Zeus] knew the things that were and the things that would be and the things that had been before.” Homer, The Iliad; 800-700BC
“You ought not to practice childish ways, since you are no longer that age.” Homer, The Odyssey, 800-700BC
ChristianAtBirth…Atheism is, in a broad sense, the rejection of belief in the existence of deities.[1] In a narrower sense, atheism is specifically the position that there are no deities.[2] Most inclusively, atheism is simply the absence of belief that any deities exist
Does that include Zeus?
Besides,Greek civilization ended in disaster!?
Test tubes and All
No man ever believes with a true and saving faith unless God inclines his heart; and no man when God does incline his heart can refrain from believing.
Blaise Pascal
So much for free will. I wonder how many people out there live their entire lives living by “faith” when god never actually inclined their heart to believe. What’s that called again? Oh yeah, Hereditary Religion! Tsk Tsk. What a wasted life dedicated to their god when in the end he’s just gonna say something like, “what do you want from me? I never called ‘you’!”.
As someone once wisely said,
“I’m not convinced that faith can move mountains, but I’ve seen what it can do to skyscrapers.”
Much more relevant than that diddy from your Pascal buddy.
You can lead a horse to WATER,but you can,t make it drink
