I thought the white chunk in this picture was ice so I ignored it for awhile. Curiousity got the best of me and I went outside to take another look. It was a bit odd, the seagulls had taken off, and a raven had landed and squawked. Ravens don’t land on the sand, so that’s partly what piqued our interest. Chunks of ice don’t attract ravens or chase seagulls away.
Fortunately Sherm decided to put some boots on and check out this chunk of ice and got about 30 feet away. That ‘chunk of ice’ turned, looked, and posed before stretching it’s wings and heading out across the lake. It was a snowy owl. Wow. I’ve seen a lot of interesting creatures in nature, but this is a first. Wow.
Sherm managed to snap off one shot with an Acer Iconia 500. It was dusk – I added some fill light in Picasa.

It would be amazing to see a wild snowy owl!
It was!
Awesome!
