An Alberta man was removed by church security from a service earlier today after he heckled the church pastor about a business transaction that threatens to remove the congregation from its home. And CBC News cameras were there for the aftermath.
At Victory Christian Center in Edmonton, pastor Cal Switzer had Wally Glimm physically removed after the latter started yelling out about the church’s financial problems during this morning’s service.
Glimm told his side of the story to CBC TV afterwards. Apparently, the pastor holds an overwhelming interest in the holding company that owns the church property. Switzer, the CBC reported, then used the church property as collateral for a contract that went bad and now a judicial forced sale means that the church property is up for sale.
The story quotes the pastor’s explanation of what was going on, from his point of view, which prompted Glimm’s indignation. He’s still expressing his indignation when interviewed on camera:
Update: Monday’s Edmonton Journal has a story, with their own accompanying video. They write that the pastor could not be reached for comment.

IF the Pastor did in fact do this real estate deal on his own, then there is something seriously wrong with the Governance model at that church.
Any church that allows its Pastor direct access to funds or the ability to make financial committments is sailing into disaster. No responsible Pastor would want this ability or authority.
When something does not make sense it usually means that there is missing data.
I think that all the facts need to be on the table before any conclusions can be made. |
It seems so very odd that a members of the church would want to censor someone by having them physically removed from the building. In the same vein, something is drastically wrong when a chuch usher assaults a camera man.
Would this Governance model be acceptable in your church? How about the censorship?
The school associated with the church has 200 students (K-12) with no place to go. Because this school is accredited by Alberta, parents who pay 3800 a year have to be told in 30 days the school is closed and where students will be re-located. Daycare will have no where to go either.

So this developer bought the property in 2008 for 18 million, paid 2.8 mil in the down payment, and that was it?
The church has hired the best lawyers —and are going to pay for them how?:^)
Didn’t parents and parishoners ask questions? Didn’t elders and the board provide financial reports?
It’s the devil’s fault? Only one of the approximately 250 people refuted the account the pastor gave from the pulpit?
And to top it off, church security supposedly tried to manhandle a reporter as fjc notes. There is something really wrong with that picture.

A year ago, members of this church approached a child in an Edmonton park, handed out a bible verse and candy and told this girl she could have more candy if she memorized the verse.

One of my old magazine colleagues commented online to the effect “It may not be a good idea to give $300,00 to a church that the pastor owns.”
Too bad there aren’t more church folk like Wally. He’s got balls to hang the church’s dirty laundry out there for all to see. Shame on all those in the congregation who didn’t follow his lead and do the same. If they’re not willing to confront the slimy pastor about his obvious part in this, they’re reaping what they’ve sown.

Sounds more like a business than a church. These guys should get into the ‘big time’ and get themselves a television show and a television audience.

Maybe if this does not work out financially for the Pastor he can join the rest of the affinity fraud crooks in Alberta and start selling those Iraqi dinars (selling, not buying) or perhaps follow other former Pastors into the fraudulant property development business.

If Switzer was not skilled or advised in this real estate venture, looks like he was easy prey for a skilled Frederick. Frederick’s track record with real estate, obviously is showing up in the paperwork. There could be a lot more names that are related to him, before it’s all over (no pun intended). It would be interesting to know how this real estate venture relationship started.

“act of god” is such an ambiguous term. Many fundagelicals could say that a whistle-blower like Glimm was an act of god. Or the pastor became terminally ill was an act of god. Or a tornado came through and wiped out the pastor’s church, house and family and that was an act of god. Or an act of god could even be as simple as a fender-bender or his child announcing he is gay or converting to Islam. “Act of god” nowadays (unlike in biblical days) can therefore mean just about anything to those who are trained to believe in god and see his hand in all things. Acts of god are in every day life occurrences, according to believers and could end up making you a very poor man, Ben.

Switzer may have been conned, or he could be a con, but has anyone heard of a Pastor controlling all financial aspects of a church,,,,,including owning majority interest/shares in a Corporation that owns the Church? Not me. Maybe one of those scary TV Evangalists but not a regular church. Does anyone think that this is the correct way to set up Church and have no oversight or checks/balances? Churches are emptying at an unprecedented rate as information becomes more readily available. Christianity is becoming more and more difficult to support as history and archeology disprove the claims of the bible. These days, believers are backed into a corner from which there is no escape. The numbers of non-believers are overtaking the numbers of believers at a rate on 1 million annually just in the USA.
You are a vanishing species Brano, and your kind won’t be around in another generation or two. I’d suggest you have lots of kids and indoctrinate them immediately. Use the bible, and advise them to quote it’s lies and misinformation as “evidence”.
