Authorities confirmed they had found an unexploded bomb outside a womans clinic Austin Texas on Wednesday. No one has claimed responsibility. The clinic was back in operation on Thursday. An elected member of the governing body of the Southern Baptist Convention openly supports The Army of God, a domestic terrorist anti abortion group.According to Ethics Daily the 2nd Vice President of the Southern Baptist Convention signed a declaration supporting James Kopp of the Army of God.Kopp was convicted of murdering Dr. Dr. Barnett Slepian of New York State in 2003. Kopp killed Slepian in 1998 and was captured in France in 2001. He is suspected in the murder of four other doctors in the US and Canada and is currently serving a life sentence.
Wiley Drake is also the national chaplain of the Minute Men, a vigilante group that patrols the US borders.
Drake was elected 2nd Vice President of the Southern Baptist Convention in Greensboro South Carolina in June 2006. He is the minister at First Southern Baptist Church in Buena Vista California.
Drake is identified as on the declaration as a pastor and broadcaster with Crusade Radio. A comment alongside his name says: “The price of blood is high. Some will pay high, and some will pay low, but pay, we all will for the 40 million babies we have killed. God bless you my brother as you serve Him, and His little ones.”
Why is a minister of a denomination in the US is permitted to openly support a domestic terrorist group? What also is puzzling is that it was known Drake signed the declaration prior to his election. It states:
“We, the signers of this declaration, proclaim that we support and stand for righteousness in the defense of the unborn. … We will stand with our brother Jim Kopp. We will support him for his love of unborn children.” It ends with a reference to “those who have made the ultimate sacrifice” in defending unborn children.
Wiley Drake is not the only minister who has been affilated with The Army of God.
In 2003 Rev. Paul Hill, who had been a minister with The Presbyterian Church of America was executed by the state of Florida for the murder of a doctor in 1993. The email to the group goes to Rev. Donald Spitz. Spitz is the head of Pro Life Virginia. The history of the group can be found here.
Drake has also openly supported Sun Myung Moon of the Unification Church. He pubicaly apologized when his involvement became public saying he didn’t mean to offend or confuse his brothers, and he continues to support Moon’s activities.
Why is a Southern Baptist minister permitted to hold office while supporting domestic terrorism. And support a cult leader?
50 percent of the South Carolina SBC delegates at the convention voted for him.
It’s a Friday, so while blogging slows down, this is being picked up.
