A friend just called and asked if I was near my ‘puter. I wandered over and pulled up the URL they asked me to – Dominion Outreach Centre Ottawa. They asked if anything jumped out a me.
This did and I got a bingo! on the other end of the phone.
I thought I was looking at the CNN logo, which is fine, if it is in a few video frames, no problem. This is the Dominion Outreach Centre calander section. I wasn’t looking at the CNN logo, I was looking at this:
The calendar section is the church bulletin I guess. I know there are only so many fonts to go around, but, given my first, second and subsequent impressions, I think this is pushing it. Here is Time Warner/Turner Broadcasting System’s Cable News Network logo:
I’m not a trademark or copyright lawyer, I can see the Ottawa church logo has breaks in it, and it is not red. I don’t know if I’d want to be a church administrator getting an email or letter from Time Warner/Turner Broadcasting lawyers.
What about you, if you head over to the Dominion Outreach Centre and have a look at the front page, do you think you’re seeing the CNN logo? What do you think Dominion Outreach Centre is trying to convey or suggest?

I think this is obvious trademark infringement, especially when you consider they are both “news networks”. I guess if you can’t make it on your own merit or in their case, with the help of god, you have to do whatever it takes.
Would love to see the letter when it arrives. I’d even offer my services to Turner to fly out to Ottawa and personally deliver it.
If Prankard is sued, he may be the one who has to cash in his RRSP’s. (http://haggardbuthappy.wordpress.com/2011/01/28/death-deceit-and-devotion/)
There was a similar thing with Pat Robertson and his
graphic and logo back in the ’80s. It looked like CBS.
I stumbled on it during a weekday morning while
looking through the channels and I thought for about
5 minutes that it was a CBS program because of the
graphic and the background colour.
I am not sure this is a big deal. People don’t really think that it is CNN. Most of these things start out as a kind of joke within the church family. I used to go to a church called K(name of town) Family Church, and I modelled some mock logos based on another entity also called KFC and we used them in church bulletins for a bit of a laugh.
It’s not similar to the Pat Robertson situation, it is the notice pages of a local church. It obviously looks like CNN to make the church people aware it is their news page and add a little colour and humour to what can be the blandest part of a church service.
The Dominion crowd would believe that they are taking over the Media Pillar of Society,However, the media, CNN,etc..are playing the Dominion crowd like a violin…
I personally don’t see why they would even WANT to use CNN’s logo… CNN is the crappiest excuse for unbiased news in the world. it’s completely one sided and crap.. “oh, someone heard a baby sneeze, we better update this Amber Alert story”. It’s crap. Actually, maybe I do see why they would want to use it.
