Mark Byron replies

Noted blogger Mark Byron has chosen to repliy to my post earlier this week on the usefulness of keeping an eye on the dominionist movement.

So far, his reply is in two parts, part one and part two.

I’ll need to give what he says a good thinking over, but so far, I am pleased with how our exchange is going. Byron is amiable, and thoughtul, and I hope that I differ with him respectfully.

I see that he may also look askance at Faytene Grasseschi, the lady, who through circumstance–being Canadian and all–gets good play here.

A point he makes in his second post reminds me of something that I read in an older conservative critique of the earliest form of dominionism, which I plan to blog on separately soon…

I’m thinking that Dominionism is like a leading question. It can be suggestive, obsure and misleading. I’m also thinking that with each era, that goes by, it’s adaptive to the times and cultures. It can map out leadership roles. When one listens to Dominionism, they need to make sure it does not mock God’s word.

When something powerful captures a mind, it causes one to react. Then I’m reminded, that to have a relationship with Jesus Christ takes simple faith.

when is the last time all of these nars, dominionists, peter wagners, theologicals and on and on and on threw a party and invited the lowlives (sp?) hanging out on the street corners instead of their friends? todd bently and these guys talk a lot about “the anointing”. do they as often even mention compassion? the last thing satan wants people to do is throw away money like it is paper. who ever heard of inviting winos to a party with an open bar? the last thing satan wants is the enemy (the citizens of the kingdom not of this world) to be little specs of yeast leavening the whole loaf–read no big [impersonal] religious corporations with global visions. uh-uh. before you consider giving money to the poor, judge if they are responsible; after all, they would not be in their predicament if they were; forget jesus’ off-the-cuff remark, “the poor will always be around.” satan is as wise as a serpent: nothing distracts like arguing the “truth”. let’s hit him (satan) where it hurts and love our neighbors as ourselves by taking paul seriously and working so that we can give to the poor, instead of working so that we can live the american [or wherever] dream.
